What is Brighton Option Program?

It is an outreach program of the Aurora Public School (APS) District's Option School, whose sole purpose is to provide support to parents and students who choose to educate primarily through the home. Options provides this opportunity via one-day per week, off- campus, educational opportunities with licensed teachers and other home schooled students. Contact Rebecca Dorsey, 303-280-2258, brightonoptionschool@mac.com How does it work?
  • Dr. Tom Synnott established the Option program back in the 90's to support parents who choose to school their children at home. Dr. Synnott is now the Principal of APS Options, which is our sponsor.
  • The Option program is tuition free because it receives a portion of what is called the Per Pupil Operating Revenue (PPOR), which is distributed at the state level for each enrolled student. This PPOR is then used to pay rent to a facility, pay teacher and staff salaries, and to purchase curriculum and supplies.
  • For the Option program to receive this funding, each student must spend approximately 5-6 regularly scheduled hours per week with a licensed teacher hired by Options. For secondary students this can be a combination of Option classes, Option sponsored college classes and / or Option sponsored technical school classes.
